ETC helps St Petersburg theatre get its skates on
Ambitious renovation and ultra-tight deadlines take the Congo to the Mikhailovsky
Published: 19 April 2008
ETC has supplied lighting equipment as part of the refurbishment of the Mikhailovsky Theatre in St Petersburg, Russia.
The timeframe for the work was a mind-bogglingly tight four months, from June to October 2007. When looking for lighting equipment, the theatre found that a lot of suppliers seemed accustomed to more conventional lead-times and couldn't deliver in time. Presumably relishing a challenge, ETC said it could. Its claim would soon be tested.
ETC supplied one of its Congo consoles, which is based on the Avab Pronto! system the theatre was using previously. This mattered: shorn of the usual time required for training, the relatively shallow learning curve (at least, for those familiar with the Pronto!) would be quickly overcome. Its flexibility and ability to manage numerous control channels was also a factor.
Against all the odds (and every sane prediction) the refurbished theatre re-opened on 6 October 2007, under the glare of ETC's Congo.
