Cotech goes green
Lighting filter manufacturer uses new technology to reduce chemical emissions
Published: 30 September 2007
Cotech has installed a new plant to reduce chemical emissions into the atmosphere.
The company, which offers a large range of surface coated lighting filters, has invested in a new state-of-the-art thermal oxidiser that turns emissions from its Welsh manufacturing plant into clean air.
"This unit consumes only one third of the gas that was used by our previous oxidiser, by cleverly using the exhaust solvents from the coating units, and it is capable of achieving near zero emissions," said marketing director, Daniel Llovet. The company is also installing a distillation unit "that will enable us to reclaim our waste solvents for re-use in our coating process. It will not only cope with our current production needs, but has excess capacity to cope with our long-term plans for future growth."
He added, "Cotech is indebted to the Carbon Trust, Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council, Green Dragon Environmental and Venture Wales for their support and advice in creating a cleaner environment and helping us to facilitate our future growth."
