Published: 5 August 2007
PLASA has announced the four contenders for the first Gottelier Award, to be presented at this year's PLASA07 which runs from the 9-12 September at Earls Court in London.
Named in honour of the late Tony Gottelier, the industry innovator and commentator who passed away in 2006, the Gottelier Award is aimed at those members of our industry who have made significant and sustained contributions to the advancement of entertainment, presentation or installation technology - whether in audio, lighting, rigging, staging or any other related field.
Following a six-week period of gathering nominations from across the industry, the shortlist of leading nominees can now be revealed, ready for the voting process to begin.
The nominees are (in alphabetical order):
- Tony Andrews - a highly regarded designer and manufacturer of high quality point source loudspeaker systems, with numerous patents to his name. His landmark developments include the hugely successful Flashlight and Floodlight systems, and more recently the distinctive Funktion One Resolution Series.
- Richard Belliveau - the High End Systems co-founder is the inventive mind behind a long line of successful products from the company, including the Intellabeam, Cyberlight, the Studio Command and the company's latest luminaire, the Showgun. He is listed as the inventor on 100 US patents, issued or pending.
- Adam Bennette - a leading authority on DMX, he is the author of the indispensable booklet 'Recommended Practice for DMX512', which has been reproduced in 10 languages, and has been a driving force behind ETC's successful lighting control systems, including the latest SmartFade range.
- Wayne Howell - founder of Artistic Licence, has won numerous awards for his product ideas, and is the creator of Art-Net, the free Ethernet communication protocol which is now supported by more than 60 companies worldwide. He is also the author of Rock Solid Ethernet, published in 2004.
PLASA is now inviting everyone in the industry to vote for their favourite from among the nominees: all voting will be conducted online at the PLASA07 website, with one vote per registered user. Further information on all the above nominees is available at the website, and the whole process, including registration and voting, should take no more than a couple of minutes.
The voting page will remain live until midday on Friday 24 August, and the winner will be revealed at the PLASA Awards presentation ceremony which takes place during PLASA07 on Monday 10 September 2007.
